Ex-Wise Heads third album heralds a significant change in both personnel and musical direction. More of a considered studio oriented creation than previous releases, Holding Up The Sky finds the original duo of Colin Edwin and Geoff Leigh augmenting the natural sound of Ex-Wise Heads with electronics, analog drum machines and ambient textures.
Featuring percussionist Rick Edwards (Hossam Ramsay, No-Man, Porcupine Tree) and trumpet player Ian Dixon (Ape, Ute, Irmin Schmidt), Holding Up The Sky contains an hour of new music.
Without losing the spontaneous and primal feel of previous Ex-Wise Heads releases, the band's original instrumental elements fit seamlessly into the more refined and sonically diverse soundscapes explored on Holding Up The Sky. The multi-tracked pitch shifted flutes on Snowdrift, Termite Parade's abstract percussion, the trance themed Accidental Design and the heavy, dublike, Gene Pool are highlights of what is easily the most accessible and ambitious Ex-Wise Heads release to date.
