In January of 2024, Djabe and Steve Hackett took part in the Bodø Jazz Open festival in Norway, one hundred kilometres above the Arctic Circle. Djabe & Steve Hackett played one gig at the Svömmehallen Scene and Djabe played another at Dama Di the next day. They also decided to record a new collaborative studio album during their Arctic stay.

 

As with their previous album The Sardinia Tapes, born from a series of jam sessions, Freya features music inspired by the surroundings in which it was made. 

 

Djabe guitarist Attila Égerházi declares, “The whole stay and the music recorded was extraordinary and magical.” 

 

The release also includes a region free blu-ray disc featuring a 5.1 mix of the album, along with bonus audio and visual features, including live material recorded in Norway in January 2024 and Hungary in 2023, along with the documentary Arctic Jam.
